LOCAL AND REGIONAL PLANNING
Local and Regional landscape planning approach considers the “genius loci” or the essential character of the places we act upon, gives as a result unique and quality spaces and environments, in which people live and work comfortably while landscapes and nature values are deeply respected. Landscape architects develop local and regional masterplans, based on the previous interview of all stakeholders, including local authorities, dwellers, investors and business actors.
From the very beginning, in the planning process of new residential, industrial or touristic development, landscape architects must analyse the future open spaces, connection and transportation services, and buildings, in such a way that they adapt and fit with the existing local morpho-geographic conditions, maximizing the preservation of existing resources, considering orientation, prevailing winds, slopes, natural drainage, etc.
Masterplans should always be landscape-based, and their result be understood as multifunctional landscape infrastructure, according with the existing local conditions, including their constraints and opportunities.
Community and Regional Planning should always aim at protecting the citizens, and this is easily done by avoiding any mistakes made at the planning phase.
Local and Regional Planning must be Landscape and Nature based, considering landscape characteristics and citizen protection against environmental degradation and natural hazards.
